Been a very very busy couple of weeks!! I haven’t posted many reports because frankly, I’ve been too busy fishing, driving and sleeping. So…this is a catch-up post, of sorts, for those of you keeping track. The big news right now is the Klamath. The Salmonflies are out in abundance and I’ve seen some very [...]

Hat Creek and Lower Sacramento Report 5/12-13/10
Greg and Jason enjoyed a great couple of days in Shasta county this week. Hat Creek continues to produce some great fish ahead of the Salmonfly hatch. Only a few adult bugs were in the air but every likely spot on the river seems to hold fish willing to eat the big nymphs with abandon. [...]
Hat Creek Report 5/6/10
Brrrrr!! What a difference a couple of days can make in northern California! It was 38 degrees when Bruce and I suited up to fish the Wild Trout section of Hat Creek. Not surprisingly, there wasn’t a soul around at the PH2 riffle being that it was so cold and windy. After reviewing the techniques [...]
Hat Creek Report 4/30/10
I fished Hat Creek on a busman’s holiday Friday…lot’s of fun! I fished mostly the PH2 riffle as there really wasn’t a crowd at all. There were mixed hatches which is normal at Hat Creek; PMDs, Callibaetis, a couple Green Drakes, several caddis species and I even saw a Salmonfly!
Fall River
Another beautiful spring creek and my wife’s favorite place to fish! Meandering out of the icy springs at the headwaters, the Fall River winds it’s way through meadows and pastures at a leisurely pace. Deep weed beds hold thousands of trout up to 24″ that feed daily on numerous mayfly and caddis species throughout the [...]
Pit River Report 4/15/10
We drove up Hagen Flat Rd as far as we could go. Kurt said he was up for “adventure”. There’s been a LOT of construction on the road along the Pit so I didn’t really know how far we could go upstream from the town of Big Bend. Turns out…you can drive all the [...]
McCloud River
A beautiful canyon and equally beautiful fish. Along with the Pit and Upper Sac, the McCloud is the third of the main tributaries feeding Lake Shasta and ultimately the Lower Sacramento river. I won’t claim to derive original thought here to the beauty of the fish or the river…much has been written over many decades. [...]
Fishing Shasta
There’s several lifetimes of fishing in northern California! I’ve been at it off and on for the better part of 20 years and I still haven’t fished all the water on my ‘bucket list’ so, we better get started! Check out the links to all the river pages, lace ‘em up and Go Fish! Lower [...]
